Basic White Cake Recipe 

1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon butter flavoring

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour two 9 inch diameter round cake pans.  Cream together shortening and sugar.  Add eggs and blend well.  Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda.  Add flour mixture and buttermilk slowly to shortening.  Blend until batter is smooth.  Add vanilla and butter flavoring and stir well.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
