1 cup + 2 tablespoons shortening 2 cups brown sugar 1 can sweetened condensed milk 2 eggs 2 1/2 cups flour 4 tablespoons vanilla 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 cups quick oats 1 cup chopped pecans 1 1/4 teaspoons salt 12 oz. chocolate chips
Blend 1 cup shortening and brown sugar. Add 2 beaten eggs and 2 tablespoons vanilla. Mix flour, baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt. Stir in oats, and then mix both sets of ingredients together and blend well. In a saucepan over medium heat, mix condensed milk, chocolate chips, 2 tablespoons shortening and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir in chopped pecans and 2 tablespoons vanilla. Take original oatmeal mixture and line bottom of oiled baking pan, about 1/2 inch thick. Pour warmed chocolate mixture into pan. Cover with remainder of oatmeal mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 35 minutes. Let cool and cut into bars for serving. |
