Roast Turkey Recipe 

1 large frozen or fresh turkey (20 to 24 pounds)
1/4 cup salt
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon garlic powder
Turkey roasting bag
2 sticks butter

If turkey is frozen, thaw in refrigerator according to package directions.  When turkey is thawed or if using fresh turkey, remove giblet packet from inside bird.  Wash both inside cavity and outside of turkey and pat dry.  With your hand , pat salt into the inside cavity of the turkey.  Insert 1 stick of butter into inside cavity of turkey.  Use the other stick of butter to rub on turkey skin.  Coat all outside surfaces of turkey, so spices will adhere properly and skin will brown in oven.  Make a mixture of chili powder, black pepper, and garlic powder and sprinkle generously onto turkey's skin.  Add a small amount of extra salt to skin by just shaking it on.  Place turkey in oven roasting bag and place in a roasting pan.  You can add 1/2 cup warm water to the bag as well as any vegetables, such as onion or carrots in quartered pieces.  Cook turkey in a pre-heated 325 degree onion for 20 minutes per pound of turkey weight.  Check internal temperature of turkey with a meat thermometer and make sure it is at least 180 degrees before serving.
