2 pounds shredded red cabbage 1/4 cup brown sugar 4 tablespoons vinegar 3 tablespoons butter 1 gallon water 2 tablespoons pickling spices
Combine sugar, vinegar and butter and heat in pan until dissolved. This make a prepared sauce for the cooked cabbage. Place pickling spices in cheesecloth and place in kettle of boiling water. Add cabbage and cook for 30 minutes to make cabbage almost tender. Drain cabbage and mix with prepared sauce. |
